Build a Website to Last

There are many important components to building a solid website that will rank well in the search engines and last over the long haul. It can be a mind boggling task, if you are building it yourself and even more so, if you lack experience. Take it from a self-taught, do-it-yourselfer - it really can be done. All you need to do is use the right strategy and follow a set plan.

Competition online is growing more fierce every day, and to those of us who have been trying to make a living online for a while, we have see the changes coming. You can no longer throw a site up in a day and expect to make money. That's not saying you cannot make money online, because you can - it just takes more time and effort than it used to, in order to reap the benefits for more than a few weeks. Assuming you already have a particular theme in mind and have done your initial keyword research (and scoped out the competition!) - you will need to formulate an organized website.

The best method I have found so far is one using what is called "silo structure" - a term popularized by an ebook written by Charles Heflin. The theory appeals to me because it is an organized structure that is sound and makes a lot of sense. It is not a get-rich-quick scheme, but way to lay a foundation for a website that will grow and become stronger over time.

The Master Plan was the first purchase I did not regret making and it is something I still refer back to often. It takes you through the website building process, step-by-step, from understanding Latent Semantic Indexing and how to make your site search engine friendly, to designing your site and steps to drive traffic in your direction.

Admittedly, the first site or two that I built this way did take me a lot longer to put together than it probably should have, but the results were worth the effort. My sites were ranked quickly in the search engines for the keywords I had targeted and still rank better than other sites with similar themes.
